So many aspects of the technology revolution have impacted wedding planning from couples having personalized wedding websites to the universe of wedding blogs to share wedding ideas.  Among my favorite developments is the capacity of guests in faraway locations to attend ceremonies via Skype or other video services.

Last week I married Brendan and Giancarlo is a private ceremony in their home.  It was a dignified and moving affair, staged as one might see in a wedding registry office in Europe.  The room was stylized and women guests appears in white.  The touching ceremony flowed with an opera performance (world class, I might add) of a Verdi piece.  I particularly enjoyed the fact that Brendan’s family members skyped in from Australia, while Giancarlo’s family attended, while at home in Milan!  They could see AND hear it all from dozens of time zones away.  And nothing was required beyond a Skype “premium” account allowing multiple hook ups in the same location.

As the ceremony concluded, both sets of families–across the Pacific and Atlantic oceans–heaped applause and cheers on the grooms.  It was a moment to behold, especially for old-timers like me!  All good things to this exceptional couple, and best wishes for Wedding II in Italy, next year!
