Lee’s Art Shop: A Dream Stop for DIY Wedding Projects

Brides and Grooms are busier than ever these days.  And, despite the abundance of superb bridal coordinators and skilled vendors to focus on the details of each and every aspect of a wedding, many folks are in a “DIY” frame of mind.  Tools like Pinterest, coupled with numerous specialized wedding magazines and blogs have got the creative juices of marrying couples in wonderful ways.  Be it personalized wedding websites, extraordinary floral arrangements, or one-of-a-kind save the dates and wedding invitations (just to name a few!), brides (and some artistic grooms) are relishing the opportunity to jump in to all facets of the big day.

To serve those with a creative wedding gene, here in the Big Apple, I highly recommend Lee’s Art Shop, at 220 West 57th Street, between 7th Avenue and Broadway.  Nestled among landmarks like the Russian Tea Room and Carnegie Hall, it is a gigantic, multi-floor store with every possible craft and art item one could imagine.  To be perfectly honest, it is the kind of place that gives me heart palpitations when I enter.  I recently visited to purchase handmade papers for a cards (they have scores of stunning hand crafted papers of all colors and designs), and was delighted to find extraordinary Christmas decorations (deeply discounted in the new year) and everything else under the sun.

For those interested in assistance with wedding invitations, they have an entire section set aside for finely printed items, staffed by numerous outstanding employees.  And for folks wanting to “make something” (memory books, takeaway bags, or gifts for attendants, just to name a few), you will find it all—literally.  Since the demise of my beloved Kate’s Paperie, on the upper east side, I was convinced that to find such a selection of paper and craft products, I’d have to hit the road for the suburbs.  Alas, I was wrong.

No matter the project or occasion, stop by Lee’s.  The location couldn’t be more central, and I know you’ll find something(s) that you love…..items that you didn’t know you needed.  And for those who, like myself, enjoy shopping from the comfort of one’s barcalounger, you can order from Lee’s online. Feast your eyes on just a bit of their deliciously overwhelming inventory!
