At Last…

From time-to-time couples want an “element of surprise” in their wedding.   One recent couple asked a beloved friend to do a reading during the ceremony….something that she selected, but they would hear for the first time at the ceremony.  She selected the lyrics of the classic “At Last.”  In addition to being a favorite “first dance” song at weddings, it makes an interesting reading, too.  Rest in Peace Ms. James.  Your gifts live on.

At last
My love has come along
My lonely days are over
And life is like a song

Oh yeah yeah, at last
The skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up in clover
The night I looked at you

And I found a dream that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill that I have never known

Oh yeah yeah, and you smile, you smile
Oh, and then the spell was cast
And here we are in Heaven
For you are mine at last
